The shortlist for the 2019 Morland Writing Scholarships has been announced.
Founded in 2013 by Miles Morland, the Foundation’s main aim is to support entities in Africa which allow Africans to get their voices better heard. It is particularly interested in supporting African writing and African literature.
The Miles Morland Foundation, has over the years supported literary festivals and literary awards, across the length and breadth of Africa.
Previous winners of the writing scholarship include; Siphiwe Gloria Ndlovu (Zimbabwe), Sibabalwe Oscar Masinyana (South Africa), Edwige Renée Dro (Côte d’Ivoire), Kọla Túbọsún (Nigeria), Alemseged Tesfai (Ethiopia), F.T. Kola (South Africa), Eloghosa Osunde (Nigeria), Bryony Rheam (Zimbabwe), Elnathan John (Nigeria), Nneoma Ike-Njoku (Nigeria), Lidudumalingani Mqombothi (South Africa), Ayesha Harruna Attah (Ghana), Abdul Adan (Somalia), Akwaeke Emezi (Nigeria), Yewande Omotoso (Nigeria), Ahmed Khalifa (Egypt), amongst others.
Fiction writers receive a grant of £18000, while nonfiction scholars receive £27000, paid over a period of twelve months.

Winners of this year’s scholarship, would be announced this November.
