The winners in the various categories of the 2019 Text Book Centre Jomo Kenyatta Prize for Literature have been announced. The announcement was made at the closing ceremony of the 22nd Nairobi International Book Fair.
Debuted in 1972, the Text Book Centre Jomo Kenyatta Prize for Literature, is a biennial literary award given by the Kenya Publishers’ Association, for exceptional literary works by Kenyan writers in the categories of; English Adult Category, Kiswahili Adult Category, English Youth Category, Kiswahili Youth Category, English Children Category, Kiswahili Children Category and the Wahome Mutahi Literary Award.
The prize money handed out to the winners in the various categories are; adult category winners (Kshs300,000), the young adult category (Kshs150,000), the children’s category (Kshs75,000) and the Wahome Mutahi Literary Award winner (Kshs50,000).

- English Adult Category – Elders of the Mace by Mutu Wa Gethoi – Published by Longhorn Publishers.
- Kiswahili Adult Category – Watoto Wa Mwelusi by Mwenda Mbatiah- Published by Jomo Kenyatta Foundation.
- English Youth Category – Do or do by Kinyanjui Kombani – Published by Oxford University Press
- Kiswahili Youth Category – Picha Ya Karne by Hassan Ali- Published by East African Educational Publishers
- English Children Category – Trio Troubles by Jennie Marima- Published by Setmark Publishers.
- Kiswahili Children Category – Busara Na Hekima by Simiyu Mukuyuni- Published by East African Educational Publishers.
- Wahome Mutahi Literary Award 2019 – Of Pawns and Players by Kinyanjui Kombani- Published by Oxford University Press
