Play Network Studio’s reboot of Amaka Igwe’s classic film Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story will premiere exclusively on the global streaming platform, Netflix. The studio announced the official date as July 2, 2021.

The reboot initially debuted in Nigerian theatres in November 2020, months after the Nigerian government eased off the Covid-19 lockdown. Amid the pandemic, the film reportedly grossed over ₦70 million at the box office. Following its premiere, executive producer Charles Okpalaeke confirmed that the film was licensed for international release.

Announcing the news on social media, the studio wrote: “Buckle up, we’re about to take the world on a ride! 2nd of July, let’s go! 🚀” This confirmed the release date for the film.

Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story will be Play Network’s second film on Netflix. It follows the studio’s debut of its multiple award-winning Living In Bondage: Breaking Free. It joins the increasing list of Nollywood titles on Netflix.

Directed by Ramsey Nouah, Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story retells Amaka Igwe’s classic story of a young man named Ahanna with a twist. He sets up a gang of multitalented robbers called The Armandas, following his mother and uncle’s betrayal. The robbers thrive until they meet their waterloo.

The soon-to-be Netflix film, Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story, stars Stan Nze, Bucci Franklin, Osas Ighodaro, Tobi Bakre, Odera Adimorah, Emeka Nwagbaraocha, and Brutus Richards. It also features Nollywood veterans Chinyere Wilfred, Chiwetelu Agu, Ejike Asiegbu, Nobert Young, Gloria Young and Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde.
