Ranjit Chowdhry, a Bollywood star who featured in Prison Break, a popular action series, has passed away. He died after suffering a ruptured ulcer in his intestine.
The popular actor who also featured in The Officer, according to reports, died on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, at a Mumbai hospital in his home country.
The New York-based role interpreter was reported to have travelled to India at the beginning of this year for dental treatment. According to local sources, he had planned to return to the US on April 8, but was unable to do so due to the coronavirus lockdowns.
“They operated on him but he died at the hospital yesterday at 4 in the morning,” said Indian stage actress Dolly Thakore.
Chowdhry was survived by a wife and teenage son, who lived in the US.
The 64-year-old, however, began his career as a Bollywood actor after starring in Indian comedies in the late ’70s and early ’80s before moving to Hollywood.
While there, he wrote the screenplay for ‘Sam and Me’, 1991, which is based on the lives of Indian immigrants in Canada.
He enjoyed fame in recent years playing Vikram in the US version of The Office and other hit TV shows including Prison Break and Cosby.
May his soul rest in peace.
