Prince William has broken his silence following Harry and Meghan Markle’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had opened up on several issues relating to the royal family including allegation of racism.

Markle also claimed that the royal family had concerns about naming her son, Archie a prince over how dark his skin might be.

“When I was pregnant… we have in tandem the conversation of ‘he won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title’ and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born,” she told Oprah.

Neither she nor Harry said who had made the remark, although Winfrey later clarified that Harry had said it was not the queen; or her 99-year-old husband Philip who has been in hospital for three weeks while the crisis unfolds.

However, Prince William, while visiting Schools in east London on March 11, to promote a children’s mental health programme; defended the royal family against the racism allegations made by his brother and sister-in-law.

“We’re very much not a racist family,” he said when quizzed by a news reporter.

When asked if he had spoken to his brother since the interview aired; he replied: “I haven’t spoken to him yet but I plan to.”

On Tuesday, a statement was issued by Buckingham palace, on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II, Harry‘s grandmother.

“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent; of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning,” the statement read. “While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”
