In Lagos, the World Theatre Day (WTD) 2019 will be observed in grand style with a series of performances scheduled to hold on March 27 at the National Theatre, Iganmu.
Organised by Theatre Centrik in partnership with National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioner (NANTAP), this 58th edition of WTD promises to be a total theatre experience featuring 10 major productions of music, dance, drama and Spoken word.
The productions include Ankara & Black Playhouse’s Village Meeting; Ijolomo Dance Company’s Journey to the Future; Footprints Arts Ambassador’s Unity Dance and Gumboot Dance; Ennovate Dance Company’s Xombie; Tantoloun Productions The Call; Just Theatre House’s The Two Both of Us; Theatre Centrik Green Production’s My Story; Queen Zionelle’s Spoken Word; Art Castle Academy’s True Man of God; Kininso Koncept Production’s Bullsense.
WTD was initiated in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute. It is a day set aside to celebrate the values and importance of the art form, theatre and also acts as a wake-up call for government, politicians and institutions that are yet to recognise its value and its potential for economic growth.
