Osinbajo Once Approached Me to Join APC -Femi Kuti

Afrobeat icon and activist, Femi Kuti has revealed that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, once approached him to join the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

In a post on his social media pages, Kuti said he turned him down, as he doesn’t want to associate himself with any political party that doesn’t have the interest of the masses at heart.

He wrote, “I want to state for clarity and posterity my role in the Ojota protest. I was invited for what I and many believed was a genuine cause regarding the cost of fuel. As soon as I found out it was politically motivated I pulled out.

“I got a lot of backlash at the time but stood my ground. For the record I have NEVER and will NEVER affiliate with any political party that I don’t feel has the genuine interest of the people of Nigeria at heart. Even when the VP approached me to join APC, I blatantly refused as I also refused to join PDP or any other political party.”

This is however not the first time Kuti will crititise the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration and his party, in the public.

Recall that in 2018, the Nigerian music legend, at Felabration, an annual musical event to celebrate the memory of his late father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, made known that he would never support Buhari in spite of his relationship with Osinbajo.

“When I went to his (Osinbajo’s) house, he asked me to support him and he is here now and I am saying no. I won’t support him because of my father.

“But he is my friend, he said he understands and respects my view.

“He said he has been hearing about the shrine and wants to come and I’m very happy he came.

“When he got here he didn’t know the place was like this and he has seen that we are not mad people,” he told the Felabration audience.
