Oprah Winfrey has spoken out about the rumours that she advised Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ahead of their announcement about their plans to step down as senior royals.
News tabloids reported on Thursday that Oprah Winfrey, a friend of Meghan and Harry, and one of the A-list guests at their wedding in 2018; had talked through their decision with them and even “encouraged” them to pursue a new life in North America.
However, Oprah has now set the record straight, insisting this is not the case as reported by HuffPost.
In her words; “Meghan and Harry do not need my help figuring out what’s best for them. I care about them both and support whatever decisions they make for their family.”
Earlier in the week, Meghan and her husband decided to step back as senior members of the palace; with the intention of becoming financially independent.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson later said the royals were “at an early stage” of discussions. They added: “We understand their desire to take a different approach. But these issues are complicated and will take time to work through.”
However, the Queen is not happy about this development, but is yet to make a statement on the matter.
