Funke Akindele’s movie, Omo Ghetto: The Saga’, has emerged the 2020/2021 Africa’s highest-grossing movie.
In an Instagram post by FilmOne, co-producer of the comedy, Omo Ghetto: The Saga attained the feat at the just concluded META Cinema Conference in Dubia.
Also, Omo Ghetto: The Saga is the first Nigerian movie to the achieve the feat.
The statement read “We are super excited about the latest accolade won by Omo Ghetto: The Saga, as Africa’s highest-grossing film of 2020/21, at the just concluded META Cinema Conference, in Dubai, UAE.

In January, barely two months after its release, Omo Ghetto The Saga ended The Wedding Party‘s four year reign as the highest grossing Nollywood movie with ₦468 million.
In February, it also broke box office records again; as it emerged the first Nollywood film to ever cross the ₦500 million mark.
The movie released on Christmas day, is an emotional comedy film; co-directed by Funke Akindele and her husband JJC Skillz. It is also a sequel to the 2010 released, Omo Ghetto.
It also features stars such as Akindele in the dual role of Ayomide and Lefty, Adebayo Salami, Bimbo Thomas.
Others include Eniola Badmus. Deyemi Okanlawon, Zubby Michael, Mercy Aigbe, Timini Egbuson, Alex Ekubo.
Omo Ghetto: The Saga follows the story of Shalewa aka Lefty (Funke Akindele). Lefty struggles between living a life of wealth and comfort provided by her adopted mother; or returning to her ghetto lifestyle.
