The African Union Commission and the International Committee have announced the nominations for the 2021 edition of AFRIMA.
AFRIMA is an acronym for The All Africa Music Awards.
Over 8,000 songs were submitted for adjudication in the 30 continental and 10 regional categories.
Nigerian superstar Wizkid has the third most nominations with six noms, behind South Africa’s Focalistic with seven and duo Blaq Diamond, also South African with eight noms .
Wizkid’s six nominations are for Artiste of the Year in Africa, Best Male Artist in Western Africa, Album of the Year, Best African Collaboration, Song of the Year in Africa and Best Artiste, Duo or Group in African RnB Soul.
Rising sensation, Omah Lay is also in the awards mix. He got four nominations, in Artiste of the Year in Africa; Best Artiste in Western Africa; Best Artiste, Duo or Group in African Pop and Breakout Artiste of the Year categories.
A lot of other Nigerian artistes got nominated as well. Patoranking and Davido got four nominations each. Burna Boy, Tems, Olakira, Vector, Tiwa Savage and Bella Shmurda all got three nominations as well. Yemi Alade, Ladipoe, The Isomers and The Cavemen also got two nominations each.

“We believe we gave Africans and the world the very best nominations and songs in line with the 8,880 songs received under the year in review,” said Hadja Kobele, a member of the 13-man AFRIMA International Jury, representing Diaspora (USA) & West Africa (Guinea).
The African Union Commission’s Head of Culture, Angela Martins said, “The nominees list comprising 28 continental award categories and 10 regional award categories released for public voting on www.afrima.org is coming few days after a rigorous long-week adjudication process. The remaining two categories – Legend award category will be announced at the awards. The award for best Soundtrack in a movie/series/documentary film category was suspended due to low-quality entries for this year’s edition.”
AFRIMA 2021 will be televised from Lagos between November 19-21, 2021.
