Omah Lay, Tems Arrive Nigeria after Regaining Freedom

Nigerian singers, Omah Lay and Tems have arrived in Nigeria after securing their freedom from the Ugandan government.

The music stars regained their freedoms after spending days in Uganda’s police custody for flouting COVID-19 guidelines in the country.

Eelive.ng had reported that the singers risked a jail term of seven years each, after being arraigned in court on Monday, December 14, 2020.

Recall that they were arrested for flouting COVID-19 guidelines following their performances at The Big Brunch, which held at Speke Resort, Wavamunno Rd, Kampala, Uganda

In a series of tweets that follows the incident, Omah Lay lamented the ill-treatment he’s suffering in the hands of the Ugandan authority alongside Tems, as he queried why they have to “take a fall for this.”

“I’m in cuffs in Uganda right now with Tems,” his tweets read.

“I’m just a singer trying to entertain, why am I being set up in Uganda? I didn’t organize a show, I came on stage and saw teeming fans and sang to them…

“Why am I being detained? Why am I not been given a right to a fair hearing?

“Why is Uganda not letting @NigeriaMFA step into this? They have been trying to secure our release to no avail.

“Is there something bigger at play in Uganda? Why do I have to take the fall for it???” he queried.

Providing an update on their case in Uganda, the Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NDC), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, took to her Twitter account to announce that the singers have arrived Lagos.

“Stanley Omah Didia (@Omah_Lay), Temilade Openiyi (@temsbaby), Muyiwa Ayoniyi, and others just landed at the MMIA Lagos from Uganda via Ethiopia Airline at about 12:35 pm local time. We are glad they are finally home. All is well that ends well. Gratitude to Min@GeoffreyOnyeama, our mission in Uganda, and the @GovUganda for a quick resolution,” she tweeted.
