Founder of EbonyLife films, Mo Abudu, has debunked claims of copyright infringement made against her by Tobore Ovuorie, an investigative journalist.
Ovuorie had accused the media mogul of producing and releasing Òlòtūré without her consent; knowing it is an adaptation of her 2014 sex trafficking report.
“Òlòtūré does not closely resemble my work, It is a copy and paste of my work. Oloture is my life story. Whosoever claimed they wrote that script should be flogged,” she had said.
Reacting to this claim, in a statement released by EbonyLife, Abudu stated that Oloture is a “work of fiction and was inspired by a variety of true events”.
“The movie evolved after in-depth research and wide consultation with several entities with diverse accounts of human/sex trafficking which informed the development of ‘Oloture’ as a social impact project,” the statement read in part.
Oloture, follows the story of a young, naïve, female journalist who goes undercover; to expose the shady business of human trafficking in Nigeria and encounters a brutal underworld.
It ranked number 3 on the list of Netflix’s top 10 movies watched by Nigerians in 2020.
