October 1: Kunle Afolayan Hints on Movie Sequel

Kunle Afolayan

Nollywood filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan has hinted on the making of his 2014 movie, October 1‘s sequel.

In a response to a twitter user who sought to know if there will be a sequel to his 2014 psychological thriller, and if it will be based on the Lekki Tollgate’s onslaught of peaceful protesters, Afolayan replied: “It is a must told story. Script development in progress.”

Explaining further to Pulse NG what his response means, he added: “As a filmmaker, it is our social and human responsibility to also use our craft to consciously tell stories that will help create positive awareness politically, culturally and to also document the history for ourselves and generations to come.”

Afolayan’s confirmation for October 1 sequel comes amid isolated social media remarks on if the film industry will ensure that the violence which trailed the #EndSARS peaceful protest is made into films.

October 1, which is set in Colonial Nigeria, narrates the story of Danladi Waziri (Sadiq Daba), a police officer from Northern Nigeria who is posted to a remote town of Akote in Western Nigeria to investigate the frequent female murder cases in the community, and have the mystery solved before the Nigerian flag is raised on October 1, Nigeria’s Independence Day.
