Award-winning Nigerian actress, Nse Ikpe-Etim, is taking a seat as a member of the 5-member jury who will judge the novel Ladima Foundation short-film competition.
Ladima Foundation disclosed this in a statement signed by its co-founder and CEO, Lara Utian-Preston. Founded in 2017, the foundation is a pan-African non-profit organization aiming to promote women in the TV and film industry. It is based in Cape Town.
With entries already rolling in, Etim alongside other professionals will select the final 10 films from across all genres; including animation, fiction, documentary or interview style.
The Ladima competition is open to African women content creators and filmmakers of any age or experience level, currently living in Africa. The aim is to encourage participants to share stories of the circumstances that African women find themselves; under various degrees of lockdown.
Besides Nse Ikpe-Etim, other members of the Ladima jury include Journalist and filmmaker, Cornelia Glele; Curator of African Films, Lizelle Bisschoff; Academic and filmmaker, Martin Mhando; and Filmmaker, Philippa Ndisi-Herrmann.
The selected 10 films will show on the Ladima website along with other partner websites. Each winning filmmaker will also receive €500. They will also receive access to a year’s worth of educational and inspirational webinars on the USA’s Women, Make Movies platform.
