Northboi Explains His Recent Beef With Wizkid

Ace Producer, Northboi, with hits like “Soco”, “Fever” and a couple others to his name, in a recent interview on Pulse TV’s “One On One” show, talked about what led to his calling out Wizkid on Twitter and the latter’s reluctance to pay for beats. The producer also shared how working on Beyonce’s “The Lion King” album felt and went further to point out mistakes A-list producers like himself make and what he is doing in his own capacity to change the narrative.

On what led to his complaints on Twitter, Northboi shared; “I don’t see the point of working with you if my life is not important to you. We had a lot of back and forth on my payment for Joro which we produced in 2018 but at the time of release Wizkid gave another producer credit. After the Joro issue I still went on working on more songs with him but we kept having issues because he was deliberately not talking about old issues we hadn’t settled.”

On working on “The Lion King: The Gift” album, he said; “Beyonce’s legal representation texted me out of the blues that they needed me to work on her new project. I couldn’t believe it, we talked and then I sent them 40 beats, they selected 2 of the beats and 1 made it to the album. It was like a miracle, I found out I was on the album 2 days before it dropped.”

On plans to keep working with upcoming acts, the producer said; “Yes I will keep working with the young boys. There’s this mistake I observe that we producers have been making, we may think it’s moving us forward but it might be slowing us down. We give our best work to the A-list artistes. A producer knows his hardest beats so most of the time we save them for the too artistes, forgetting that the same beat could turn an upcoming artiste into a star.”
