Popular singer, Eniola Akinbo, otherwise known as Niyola, has reflected on his time with iconic music star, Banky W‘s co-owned record label, Empire Mates Entertainment (EME).

During a recently-held interview with media personality, Kiki Mordi, Niyola said when she was a signed artiste under the record label, everything wasn’t perfect as many people thought.

Admitting that she made beautiful music during her stay with the Bank W imprint, Niyola revealed that she knew something fundamental was missing, but couldn’t help herself out.

She said, “When I was with my last record label, I believed I made beautiful music but I didn’t realise that something was fundamentally missing. I knew that something was wrong but I couldn’t place it and figure it out. It was almost like I was swimming against the tide. Every time I tried to express it, it felt like there was a certain kind of person I was expected to be.”

Speaking further, the talented vocalist said at some point, she wanted to show to the world her sensuality, and many other sides.

According to the singer, she was denied all the opportunities to display her sensuality, amongst other things she would love to, under the label.

“I am not afraid to admit that I am sexy and good-looking. I want to show that I am sensual. There are many sides to me that I want to show. But, it seems everything is set up against one if one isn’t a certain way. However, it got to a stage when I was not happy about what I was doing,” added.

Long regarded as one of the most soulful artistes in the Nigerian music industry, the one-time EME signee is making a comeback into the spotlight after a three-year hiatus.

With Olúmorántí, her latest song, Niyola is worming her way into the heart of music enthusiasts.
