ELLA TEMISAN

The year 2018 was slow for Nigerian music with artistes preferring to drop singles and EPs. There were a handful of albums from acts like Burna Boy and Kizz Daniel but for the majority, 2018 was the year of the singles.

This year is looking to be different since a number of acts already announced that they’ll be releasing complete bodies of work before the year runs out.

Here are the top 10 albums we are expecting this year.

Asa

Aṣa

The last time Aṣa blessed us with an album was way back in 2014 when she released Bed of Stones. We know it takes time to make the type of quality soul stirring music that Aṣa is famous for so we have been very patient.

Thankfully, the award-winning artiste finally announced that she’ll be releasing an album and going on a tour in Nigeria. The album’s name and release date is yet to be revealed.

Timi Dakolo

Timi Dakolo has been in the music business since he won the inaugural West African Idols in 2007, but the singer only has one album to his name.

This year may see the release of his sophomore album. The singer announced earlier that he has a forth coming album titled Love and Consequences.

The lead single for the album, I Never Know Say is already a classic tune.

Teni the Entertainer

If Burna Boy was the artiste of the year for 2018, then Teni the Entertainer was the revelation of the year.

She waltzed into our hearts with Askamaya and then followed it up with other hit singles like Wait, Case and Uyo Meyo which further strengthened her place in the industry.

We expect that Teni who won the SoundCity Best New Artiste award will create a body of work this year to stamp her feet in the industry.

Wizkid

In 2018, Wizkid  promised us an album- Made in Lagos. It is a new year and we are rubbing our palms in anticipation of the record.

It’s okay though, we understand that being Wizkid a.k.a Starboy is a tough job, so we want him to take  his time to write better songs so he doesn’t repeat a single word 101 times in a song.

Simi/ Instagram

Simi

Her sophomore album, Simisola under the X3M Music  Label arguably is one of the best the music industry has seen in recent years.

Every song was skillfully written, expertly recorded and delivered. It is no wonder she won album of the year at the 12th edition of the Headies. But all that happened in 2017.

Is Simi going to release her third album this year? She already has three singles: I dun care, Lovin and Ayo which are currently doing well on music charts.

Patoranking

Patoranking

This is one artist who has been quietly making waves in Africa and the Caribbean, avoiding scandal and gossip as much as possible.

Patoranking became a household name after he released Alubarika back in 2014. His debut album, God Over Everything was released in 2016.

The singer will be releasing a new album titled Wilmer soon. His hit single from last year such as Everyday, Suh Different and Heal the world might make it into the album.

Tiwa Savage

Like Wizkid, the Mavin artiste also promised to release an album last year to follow up the Sugarcane EP she released late in 2017.

Tiwa who is currently in a copyright battle with Danny Young over her late 2018 single One was unable to release an album last year, perhaps due to her tight schedule.

Tekno

How has Tekno been active in the music space since 2013 and still doesn’t have an album?

Not one single body of work? Every year since 2013, music journalists write articles predicting when Tekno will release an album and he always proved them wrong.

Will this be the year Tekno drops an album? We wait.

Davido

Davido rode through 2018 with his hit singles and other collaborative works with fellow DMW singers and other artistes.

He was also one of those who reneged on their promise to release an album in 2018. Let’s see if he’ll follow through on his words and put a themed body of work together this year.
