Nike Women is showing its support for the exceptional women in football with the release of a mini-documentary, which features some of the best athletes to have come out of Nigeria and their background stories.

With competitions like the Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) and the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the perceptions of women in football is slowly changing across the continent.

The mini-documentary/short film is directed by Nigerian-American filmmaker, Amarachi Nwosu, and is set in Lagos. Drawing from Nwosu’s football experience in high school and later joining other emerging female directors — from London to New York — Nwosu captures what the game looks like in her community.

A shining example of a woman succeeding in football is Azeezat Oshoala, who has a number of accolades and trophies to her name. When the camera shows girls taking on boys in street football, we are reminded of Oshoala’s humble beginnings in Ikorodu.

Speaking about the project, Nwosu shared; “So glad I was able to represent Nigeria and be a part of pushing the narrative of women’s soccer globally and the power of making the game inclusive for all.”
