Burna Boy sparked a debate on Twitter after declaring himself the “best since Fela,” on February 12, 2020.
Recall that Burna Boy first claimed himself to be “African Giant” last year. His new title ” African Giant” follows his upset with his placement on a Southern California festival’s flier, he asserted that he was an “African Giant,” and his spot on the lineup should reflect that fact. Shortly after, he announced that his newest album would be titled the same.
At the time, Nigerians on Twitter dragged Burna Boy for calling himself an African giant while complaining about how his name was listed on the festival flyer.
Apparently, since its release (African Giant Album) in late July, 2019, Burna has found himself with a bigger international spotlight on him than ever before.
And now, Burna has given himself another title, sparking a debate on Twitter. He wrote:
” FACT! I always knew I was and I am THE BEST. Everyone you think is the best KNOWS I’m BEST since Fela Kuti. But @timayatimaya told me something a long time ago that made me not care about being the best. “The World can do without the Best” the world will still spin regardless.”
Now that ” The Best Since Fela,” has arrived, Nigerians are weighing in on if Burna Boy has lived up to his self-proclaimed title.
While some disagree with Burna Boy‘s new title, others say he has lived up to the hype as one Twitter user insisted,”Facts. Burna Boy you’re spitting facts.” Moreover, some others just used the moment to crack jokes or offer their own suggestions for title.
However, while we can’t talk about Afrobeats without mentioning Burna Boy, who do you think is the Best of Afrobeats for this generation?
