Chancellor Ahaghotu, a Nigerian student at Atlanta’s Savannah College of Art and Design, set a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest painting marathon.
GWR announced on Wednesday that Chancellor had broken its 10-year-old painting marathon record.
“After painting for 100 consecutive hours, Nigerian art student Chancellor Ahaghotu has broken a decade-old record for the longest painting marathon,” the post reads.
Chancellor sketched 100 canvases during his 100-hour marathon.
He painted 106 pieces depicting various subjects such as celebrities, food, plants, and animals.
Chancellor painted a broken record player while setting a new record on the 60th hour. He completed his tasks by painting an exhausted person.
In a statement about the new record, Chancellor stated that he experienced fatigue around the 88-hour mark but remained committed to reaching his 100-hour goal.
He described the painting as representing “my various moods and feelings.”
The student went on to say that the achievement will help his career and allow him to “pay a service to my school and country.”
Chancellor said:
“One thing I love about the paintings I created is that they represent my different moods and how I was feeling when I created them.”
“There was joy and celebration when I completed the 100 hours. It was a new experience for me and I’m so glad I completed the 100 hours.
“This (record) helps me feel a very high level of personal achievement, build up my career as a reputable artist, and pay a service to my school and country.”
The previous record was held by Belgian painter Roland Palmaerts, who painted for 60 hours in 2013.
Lola Mewu, a Nigerian artist, attempted to set a new world record for the longest painting marathon last November.
Mewu finished her tasks in 82 hours.
