Nigerian Musicians Asake, BNXN receive 2023 YouTube grant for African Creators

Nigerian Afrobeat singers, Ahmed Ololade popularly known as Awake, and Daniel Benson popularly known as BNXN have been chosen for 2023 YouTube Grant for African Creators.

Both singers were chosen by YouTube as recipients for its 2023 YouTube Black Voices creators and artist cohorts.

Alex Okosi, Managing director of Emerging Markets, YouTube EMEA, announced this in a statement on Tuesday. He explained that the initiative is a follow up to a the global multi year commitment made in 2020.


He states that through the campaign, YouTube will give creators, $20,000 and the African creative sector, $50,000. This is as seed funding though the 2023 #YouTubeBlackVoices creators and artist cohorts.

African artists like Kamo Mphela from South Africa, Gyakie from Ghana, BNXN and Asake from Nigeria, were among the 23 selected. These artists, asides om the grant, would enjoy dedicated partner support for six months. Also with the opportunity to participate in programmes like the bespoke training, workshops and others.

Okosi writes, “We are excited about the creators, musical artists and producers from Africa joining others from across the world in the 2023 #YouTubeBlack Voices Fund.”

Yearly, YouTube provides grant like this for African content creators and musicians and giving the Black voice a platform.
