Nigerian Idol Returns after 5 Years Hiatus

MultiChoice, a South African company that operates the BBNaija show, has disclosed that Nigerian Idol, the local version of the Idol series franchise, a reality television singing competition, will return on Sunday, March 14, 2021.

The music reality show will premier on DStv Channel 198 and GOtv Channel 29 with a special airing of the most memorable and entertaining moments from the auditions which took place late last year.

The main episodes of the Nigerian Idol season six will air weekly, starting Sunday, March 28 at 7:00 pm on Africa Magic Showcase, Urban and Family.

Speaking during the session, the Chief Customer Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, Martin Mabutho said: “This season of Nigerian Idol is like nothing you’ve ever seen. In line with our promise to always bring the best and most entertaining content to our customers, we have put together a show that we’re sure will have viewers on the edge of their seats. Nigerian Idol is famed for producing superstars and this season, we’re going even bigger – with the grand prize and with everything else. We can’t wait to show you all we have planned.”

As reported on eelive.ng, Nigerian singer Seyi Shay, disc jockey DJ Sose, music executive, Obi Asika will be judges for the sixth edition of the show.

According to a statement by the organisers, popular broadcaster, IK Osakioduwa, would be the official host.

The return of the Nigerian Idol comes as its franchise has produced some of the biggest singers such as Timi Dakolo, Mercy Chinwo, and Omawumi, all of whom made names for themselves in the global music scene.
