It is no longer news that the coronavirus pandemic is ravaging around the world. Thus, panic and preventive measures are on the rise, as societal stakeholders and other individuals are expressing commitments to quickly curtail the infectious disease.
As the disease continues to spread, show organizers and musicians have been cancelling, suspending, and postponing their tours and events.
With the disease having spread to over 100 countries, including Nigeria, EELive compiles the list of Nigerian musicians who have put their events and tours on hold due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
Davido:
The Nigerian music star had on Friday, February 21, 2020, commenced his much-anticipated tour dubbed A Good Time. Since the tour started from Edmonton, a city in Canada, the Omo Baba Olowo as he’s fondly called, has hit places like Canada, Columbia, Las Vegas, amongst others.
While the music star last featured at Denver, the capital city of Colorado in America, he surprisingly cancelled his forthcoming scheduled headlines
The tour which had been expected to also hit Dallas, a city in Texas, was cancelled when Davido made the disclosure via his Instagram page.
He posted, “I’m saddened to halt what has been a fantastic sold-out tour so far. But postponing is the right thing to do. The health and safety of my fans and staff is most paramount and nothing else matters. Be safe and see you all soon! God be with us all!”
Asa
For many Nigerians who had long been craving for Asa’s live concert, they are now unavoidably let down; as the soul singer joins the league of celebrities making huge sacrifices to curtail coronavirus spread.
The songwriter had announced her LUCID Tour with a stop in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub.
Asa Live In Lagos was to hold at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island area of the state on April 11, 2020.
Other stops on the tour included London (March 29, 2020) and Abuja (April 13, 2020).
While she cancelled her Europe stops, she, however, promised to announce new dates for her stops in Nigeria.
“Unfortunately, due to the developing Coronavirus situation, I have cancelled my upcoming European tour dates, including tonight at Ris Orangis.
“It wasn’t an easy decision to come to but with the ongoing concerns, it is the right decision for the safety of my brand, crew, and fans. We will announce new dates for the coming months. I will give an update for the March 29 London show shortly.”
Sinach:
This Nigerian mainstream gospel musician didn’t only postpone her much-awaited concert in Lagos. She also postponed her tour in Australia.
Sinach’s concert which was to hold on Friday, May 22, 2020, will now hold on to Sunday, October 18, 2020 after its postponement.
Similarly, her South Pacific Tour will now hold sometime in September 2020.
