Nicki Minaj just welcomed her first baby! Nearly three months after the Queen rapper broke the news that she and her husband, Kenneth Petty, were expecting their first baby together, People magazine confirmed Nicki gave birth on September 30 in Los Angeles.
Nicki hasn’t announced the news on her social media just yet, but she waited months before revealing that she was pregnant. Meaning, it may be a minute before she personally shares the happy news or any photos—if she ever chooses to do so.
“Love. Marriage. Baby carriage,” Nicki Minaj wrote when she first shared the pics from her maternity shoot. Overflowing with excitement & gratitude. Thank you all for the well wishes. 💛”
In a previous interview from 2014, Nicki told Complex that one of her biggest dreams was to become a mother. “[My biggest fear] is that I’ll become so consumed with work that I’ll forget to live my personal life to the fullest,” she said.
“If I’m done with my fifth album and I don’t have a child by then, no matter how much money I have, I would be disappointed; as a woman, because I feel like I was put here to be a mother,” Nicki said.

And in 2019, she tweeted that she was retiring to start a family. “I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now,” she wrote. “To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me … Love you for LIFE.”
Obviously, she never quit the music game. But it’s so exciting that she safely welcomed a baby and has started a family. Congrats, Nicki!
