Nick Cordero, Canadian actor is recovering after having his right leg amputated following complications from coronavirus.
The Tony Award-nominated star has been battling coronavirus for more than two weeks. His wife, Amanda Kloots, has kept fans informed by sharing updates on his health on her Instagram.
Cordero, 41, had spent 18 days in intensive care while sick with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). “We got some difficult news yesterday,” Kloots said. Before revealing that the blood thinners initially helping to ease some clotting in Cordero’s leg were causing issues with his blood pressure. As well as leading to internal bleeding in his intestines.
“We took him off the blood thinners. But that again was going to cause the clotting in the right leg,” Kloots shared. “So the right leg will be amputated today,” she had said.
Kloots, who shares 10-month-old son, Elvis Eduardo with Cordero, added at the time; “I’m told the fact that he made it through the surgery is a win. We are taking any and all wins right now.”
Cordero first entered the ICU on March 31 when he was “having a hard time breathing” after being diagnosed with pneumonia. He had tested negative for COVID-19 twice before a third test came back positive.
#Wakeupnick
Kloots started the hashtag #wakeupnick on Instagram. And asked fans to send her videos of them dancing and imploring him to wake up. Later Saturday, she shared an update that his surgery had gone well.”He made it through the surgery, which is really big because obviously his body is pretty weak,” she said. “Hopefully he’ll just kind of relax and rest.”
Their friends have started a GoFundMe campaign to help them pay for hospital bills and make their home wheel-chair accessible.”I’m really blown away guys … I wanna thank anyone that has given anything that they can,” Kloots said through tears. “It’s just overwhelming, I really thank you so much.”
Cordero played a mob soldier with a flair for the dramatic in 2014 in Broadway’s Woody Allen 1994 film adaptation of Bullets Over Broadway, for which he received a Tony nomination for best featured actor in a musical.
