Netflix to grant users access to free games

Netflix free games

Netflix, a top video-streaming service, announces its plans to include free games in its users’ subscription soon. The company announced this on Tuesday, via the company’s 2021 second-quarter letter to its shareholders.

According to the letter, the plans are still in the early stage of expansion into games as a new content category.

According to the streaming company, they “are also in the early stages of further expanding into games, building on our earlier efforts around interactivity (eg, Black Mirror Bandersnatch) and our Stranger Things games. We view gaming as another new content category for us. [This is] similar to our expansion into original films, animation and unscripted TV.”

This new plan will be of great advantage to users. This way, they won’t incur any additional cost in order to enjoy the games. The games will be free as long as users pay for their respective subscriptions.

Netflix wrote,

“Games will be included in members’ Netflix subscription at no additional cost similar to films and series. Initially, we’ll be primarily focused on games for mobile devices.

“We’re excited as ever about our movies and TV series offering. And we expect a long runway of increasing investment and growth across all of our existing content categories. But since we are nearly a decade into our push into original programming, we think the time is right to learn more about how our members value games.”

This news about free games on Netflix comes after the video-streaming giant hired Mike Verdu. He is a former Facebook and Electronic Arts executive as the vice president of game development of the company.

Verdu now works closely with the CEO of the company, Greg Peters. Netflix hired him to help with the actualization of its plans to produce engaging and interesting games for its users.

Netflix is an American over-the-top content platform and production company. It has 209 million subscribers across the world.
