Netflix Naija unveiled the cast and crew of its first original series at the official launch of the streaming platform’s new collaboration with Nigeria.
Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer made the announcement at the launch which held on Tuesday, February 25, 2020. He said that the platform was on its way to shoot its first Nigerian original series.
Netflix Naija’s very first original series is to have Nollywood Director, Akin Omotoso headlining it.
The series director, Akin Omotoso; who also directed The Ghost and The House of Truth; did the honour of unveiling the cast and crew for the currently unnamed series.
Speaking on the upcoming series, Omotoso disclosed that he based the story on a moment from his childhood.
Joining the Netflix Original series cast and crew are co-directors C.J. Obasi and Daniel Oriahi. Kemi Lala-Akindoju will be co-producing. In addition to that, Kate Henshaw, Joke Silva, Bimbo Akintola, Richard Mofe Damijo and others make up a huge part of the production’s ensemble cast.
Tuesday’s major announcement follows months of speculations regarding a Netflix X Naija collaboration involving local filmmakers. A major move jostled by the massive success of Genevieve Nnaji’s Netflix collaboration on her directorial debut, Lionheart in 2018.
