A body found in a lake in the US state of California has been identified as the missing Glee star Naya Rivera, police say.
Rivera, 33, went missing on Wednesday after going boating with her four-year-old son at Lake Piru. He was found alone and asleep on the boat.
Her son, Josey told authorities he and his mom were swimming and he didn’t know what happened to her.
Earlier on Monday, the Ventura County Sheriff, Bill Ayub announced that a body had been pulled from the water
Ayub said that while an autopsy and official identification are forthcoming; the circumstances from the location of the body to the fact that no one else has been reported missing in the lake makes the department “confident that the body we found is Naya Rivera.”
He said at a news conference Monday afternoon:
“She must have mustered enough energy to get her son back on the boat, but not enough to save herself.
“She and her son had climbed off the boat and gone swimming. The boy told investigators that his mother helped him back aboard but when he looked back he saw her disappear into the water.”
About Rivera
Rivera began her career as a child actress and model, appearing in TV commercials in the US.
As a four-year-old, she starred in the Royal Family sitcom on CBS and had a number of other TV appearances.
But it was playing cold-hearted Santana Lopez in Glee, the hugely popular musical comedy TV series, that made her a star.
In 2014, she starred in the horror film, At the Devil’s Door.
The same year she married fellow actor Ryan Dorsey – who is the father of her son. When the couple divorced in 2018, they were granted joint custody
