Nigerian hip-hop artiste, Naira Marley has appeared in court for the first time today over an 11-count criminal charge.
The singer, real name Azeez Fashola, is on trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on counts of fraud and cyber crime. He plead not guilty to the charges. He will be remanded in prison until May 30 when the court will hear his bail application.
Presiding judge, Justice I.N. Oweibo, stood down the case some minutes after the musician entered the dock, to wait for his counsel, Mr Olalekan Ojo (SAN).
Naira Marley was arrested on May 10 alongside fellow musician, Omoniyi Raphael, popularly known as Zlatan Ibile, and three others. Zlatan Ibile and the others were released on Tuesday last week on administrative bail according to EFCC spokesman, Tony Orilade.
