Laycon, winner of the 2020 Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) reality show has revealed that his late father wanted him to become an Engineer.

The 27-year-old rapper was speaking in a recent interview on Clout Africa‘s Radio show about his childhood and how his musical career started.

“I had always wanted to do music as a child but it got to a point where my father told me that he wanted me to become an Engineer while my mom chose Law for me,” he said.

“But I conned my parents after my Dad forced me to science class. While I was in SS 1, I discovered I didn’t enjoy being in science class even though I was a B student. It wasn’t fun, I was just reading to pass.

“So I told my mom to convince my dad that I preferred Law and I switched to Art class, knowing it would allow me pursue music. I started music professionally in 2012.”

Laycon also recounted how he had to chose between playing football and doing music as a profession.

“The point where I knew that there was no going back from music was in 2009. I used to be a good footballer, my brother had a friend who was an agent, he asked me to record a video of me playing football so he could send to Westham. That was when I had to choose between football and music. It was at that point I knew there was no going back. If I wasn’t doing music, I would have been a footballer.”

When asked to mention three Nigerian and international producers he would love to work with, Laycon picked Sarz, Don Jazzy, Master Kraft, Timberland, Swizz Beatz and Josh Blaze.
