Nollywood actor, Monalisa Chinda Coker, recently bared all in an interview with TopNaija. She talks about her background and how all she wanted was a normal boring life until she stumbled on acting. The actress also talked about her first marriage and the abuse she suffered till she took the bold step to walk away.
On her background and upbringing, Monalisa shared; “Growing up was normal, we were from a deep-rooted Christian family. My dad was a traditional ruler, he was an Eze at that time. It was normal, the ups and downs but my mum was very strict so there were very stringent living conditions, making sure we got the values and the morals at every point in time so we were not even allowed to make mistakes.”
“I didn’t set out to be an actor even though I knew I read Theatre Arts in the University of Port Harcourt. I didn’t think it was my chosen career from God because I was thinking of studying a normal course like law or sociology because I just wanted to just graduate, go into my husband’s house and bear children, have a normal 9-5 job if it was necessary, because that’s how my mum was.”

The actress also spilled the beans on her first marriage and how it damaged her even though it taught her one of her biggest lessons about life. She spoke on the alleged domestic violence issues from her ex-husband and how she had to leave for the abuse to stop.
“If the marriage wasn’t violent, I would’ve stayed. From day one, pushing of the head to slaps and anger at every slightest provocation. I wasn’t in a hurry to leave the marriage; I gave it five years.”
