Mr Eazi has released a new single titled “Advice” along with the title and release date for his long-awaited debut solo album, “The Evil Genius.”
The album, which has been in the making for a decade, is set to be released on October 27, 2023. It is now available for pre-order.
The single “Advice,” produced by Ghana’s M.O.G. Beatz, is the latest addition to the album.
The track’s release is accompanied by a stirring performance in Vevo’s original content series Ctrl.
“Advice” is a lyrically dense track that references several African martyrs. This included former Democratic Republic of the Congo president Joseph Kabila and Nigerian writer and activist Ken Saro-Wiwa.
Mr Eazi explains that the song was born out of a certain energy.
“The Evil Genius” album was recorded over a two-year period in various locations across Africa and the world. Places like Benin, Rwanda, Ghana, Nigeria, London, Los Angeles, and New York City.
The theme
The album delves into personal themes like love, betrayal, loneliness, and family, expressed through three distinct acts.
In a unique fusion of African music and art, Mr Eazi collaborated with visual artists from across the continent to create a physical art piece for each of the album’s 16 tracks.
For “Advice,” he worked with Kenyan artist Alphonce Odhiambo (Alpha ODH), who created an acrylic painting that complements the track’s defiant lyrics.
Mr Eazi personally selected 13 artists from eight African countries to participate in this creative endeavor, describing the process as informal and instinctual.
The artworks created for the album will be featured in a multi-sensory exhibition experience, debuting in Accra, Ghana, from September 13 to 17, and then at the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair at Somerset House in London from October 12 to 15.
Additional exhibition locations in other cities are expected to be announced.
