Alex Rodrigo, the director of Money Heist/La Casa de Papel, has constituted a cast for the Indian version of the hit Spanish-language show, which aired its fourth season on Netflix recently.

Money Heist follows Alvaro Morte (professor) who unites a team of criminals dressed in red jumpsuits and Salvador Dali masks to rob the Royal Mint of Spain and the Bank of Spain.

Rodrigo disclosed plans for a remake of the award-winning series in a now-viral video chat; explaining that he picked the actors according to the perception he has about them

He stated that the Professor’s role could be played by Joseph Vijay, a Tamil actor, or Ayushmann Khurrana. He added that Ajith Kumar would fit as Bogota and Shah Rukh Khan as Berlin.

Rodrigo also went ahead to pick Ranveer Singh and Mahesh Babu as the characters Denver and Tamayo respectively. While opting for Saravanan ‘Suriya’ Sivakumar as Suarez.

Ratings of Money Heist

Ever since Money Heist debuted, the series has received several awards including the ‘Best Drama Series’ category at the 46th International Emmy Awards for attempting to innovate Spanish TV.

It earned critical acclaim for its sophisticated plot, interpersonal dramas, and direction. This caused the Italian anti-fascist song “Bella ciao” to become a summer hit across Europe in 2018.

The show originally premiered in May 2017 and the ratings were very high. But as time passed, the ratings started falling. With less than half of the starting number of four million viewers, the show was just about to be cancelled; when Netfix came to the rescue.

The film was also deemed the most-watched non-English language series. Including one of the most-watched series overall on Netflix, resonating with Mediterranean Europe and the Latin viewers.

Money Heist became more popular in Nigeria back in 2019 after a group of armed robbers got caught in Abuja following a failed operation with a renowned bank.
