Afro-pop music artiste, Adekunle Gold is without a doubt, one of Africa’s top talents. With two albums to his name, “Gold” (2016) and “About 30” (2018), he keeps working hard to make his mark on the continent’s musical map.

Recently, he promised the release of another album, later this year, while this is great news for his fans and lovers of good music, it means he is working his back off to create quality content and stay relevant.

After touring 4 countries and playing at large festivals, as well as headlining his own shows, Adekunle Gold is homesick and spent. He says as much in this (love) letter to his fans.

He said: “I’m not going to lie to you; this “Africa to the rest of the world” is not a cheap exercise, especially if you are an independent artist. And while there is great reward in coursing uncharted territory for me and watching my music cut through language barriers and put smiles on unfamiliar faces in the world, being up there was hard work.”

With evident passion, Gold spoke about his biggest fears and what it takes to make creating music worthwhile.

He said: “My biggest fear is failing miserably and that all my work would count for nothing. But I was reminded of these facts; music-making is only one-sided if you are making it for yourself, in this business, you hold a key, the audience is a lock.

It’s a game of probabilities where half of our successes are within our control; the rest is up to you. We can only hope that our keys match the locks and the audience likes what you put out while being true to your evolution. We can only hope that our work meets you at a point of your need.”

Now for some motivation from an artiste who would know better, he added this for the benefit of anybody struggling to find encouragement, he said: “On the days when your keys don’t match, you must remember to retain the love and joy of creating and pat yourself on the back for the doors you’ve already unlocked. On the days new doors open, be thankful that you tried because that was the reward for trying.”

If this doesn’t inspire you go forth and blaze up trails, I don’t know what else will.

Thanks AG Baby
