The Miss Universe 2020 competition just rounded up with Miss South Africa, Zozibini Tunzi, taking the crown. However, the attention is not just on Miss South Africa because Twitter users spotted Miss Nigeria, Olutosin Araromi, doing something uncommon.
When Zozi took the Miss Universe crown, Miss Nigeria rushed to her side and congratulated her. In a beautiful show of black sisterhood, Miss Nigeria and the other black girls cheered her on.
Miss Nigeria really said “Move that’s my sister”. 🥺😭😭😭😭🇿🇦🇿🇦🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬

They let the new Miss Universe know that a win for one is a win for all. In the image below, you can see Miss Nigeria being encouraging and proud of Miss South Africa. She is basically the friend we should all aspire to be.
During the competition, Miss South Africa talked about how society does not see black girls with darker skin and kinky hair as beautiful. Zozi talked about her goals, how she wanted young girls that looked like her to know that they are beautiful in their natural form.
She talked about how more girls, black girls especially, needed to take up more space in the world. The need for black women to stand together and support each other is invaluable.
And although she did not win, Tosin Araromi has taught us that there is no room for envy or bitterness. When one of us wins, we all win.
Maybe there’s a lesson for Burna Boy and AKA here somewhere…
