American musician and actress, Miley Cyrus has encouraged people to not ‘cancel’ US rapper, DaBaby. This is following derogatory comments made by the rapper on gay marriage and HIV/AIDS.
Cyrus got in touch with DaBaby in order to ‘educate’ him. This is following his comments about gay men and Aids while on stage at a festival.
The former Disney star identifies as LGBTQ+. She used her verified Instagram page to encourage people not to cancel DaBaby. Instead , she offered to help him have a better understanding of HIV and Aids.
The Wrecking Ball singer also pointed him towards resources that could help him understand better. These resources included Greater Than Aids, which provides a public information service on social media.
The award winning actress wrote : ‘
“As a proud and loyal member of the LGBTQIA+ community, much of my life has been dedicated to encouraging love, acceptance, and open mindedness.
The internet can fuel a lot for hate & anger and is the nucleus of cancel culture…but I believe it can also be a place filled with education, conversation, communication & connection.”
Cyrus’ move is different from other celebrities like Demi Lovato and Dua Lipa. These stars amongst others, have publicly expressed total disdain and lack of support for the rapper.
