Mercy Chinwo didn’t charge N10 million to sing in our church- Poju Oyemade

The senior pastor of Covenant Christian Centre in Lagos, Poju Oyemade, has said gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo, did not charge N10 million to perform in his church.

The pastor made this revelation on Thursday while responding to a claim by a the Catholic priest, Fada Oluoma.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Pastor Oyemade said the singer recently sang at his church with no formal demand.

“Mercy Chinwo @MMercychinwo sang at our service at Lekki last Sunday and the honorarium we gave was at our discretion. She made NO formal charges,” he wrote.

Catholic priest, Fada Oluoma, had earlier revealed that gospel singers in the country now charge as high as N10 million to perform in church.

“How much does a gospel artiste of Mercy Chinwo status charge to come to an event or a church? How much do you think she will collect? It has reached N10 million,” he said.

“These are the trajectories that we have turned Christianity into. An artiste will come to church and lead praise worship for N10 million, N5 million. So, if that particular artiste does not sing ‘Jesus you love me too much’ that means Jesus no love you too much?”

Mercy Chinwo started singing at age 6 in her church children’s choir. In 2018 she released the hit single “Excess Love”
