Actor Jonathan Majors appears on assault and harassment charges

Marvel Studios has fired actor Jonathan Majors after an American court found him guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

The verdict follows a two-week trial. A Manhattan court jury found Majors guilty of reckless assault in the third-degree as well as harassment of his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari.

Judge Michael Gaffey, the presiding Judge, set the sentencing date for February 6, 2024. Majors now faces a year in prison. He could also be sentenced to probation only.

The Associated Press reports that Marvel Studios and the Walt Disney Company dropped him hours after the verdict.

The trial was called after an incident in March between the actor and his ex-partner. Jabari claimed he attacked her in a car and left her in “excruciating” pain.

He hit her in the head, twisted her arm behind her back, and squeezed her middle finger until it fractured, she claimed.

Majors has refuted all of her claims. His lawyers claimed during the trial that Jabbari was the one who attacked him.

Public statement

Following the announcement of the verdict, his lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, stated that he “still has faith in the process and looks forward to fully clearing his name.” In a statement, “Mr. Majors is grateful to God, his family, his friends and his fans for their love and support during these harrowing months.”

Majors has not made any public statements since the verdict was read.

Prior to the court case, Majors was on the fast track to stardom, landing deals and roles in big-budget Hollywood films.

He rose to prominence after starring in The Last Black Man in San Francisco. He has since appeared in Devotion, Lovecraft Country, The Harder They Fall, and Da 5 Bloods.

Majors also appeared in Quantumania and the film Creed III which was released in 2023.

He was also set to appear in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which was set to be released in May 2026.

Now, it appears that his career in the Marvel cinematic universe has come to an end.
