Released on Friday, March 7, Love In Every Word quickly became a fan favourite, capturing the attention of onlookers and making young single women (even married ones) reconsider their relationships and adjust their perception to a more comprehensive position; the movie got several netizens writing, ‘God when’ on their social media accounts. Written by Mfon-Abasi Michael Inyang, Love In Every Word follows the life of Chioma Gift-Ojokwe (played by former Big Brother Naija housemate, Bambam) who is a workaholic and a working class goal-getter who aims to become the best that she can be. Based in Lagos state, Chioma, a senior marketer at an Advertising agency has been looking for someone who would love her ideally, however, she has often met men who are “finding themselves”. At the commencement of the movie, she was seen having an argument with her soon-to-be former partner whom she breaks up with after he lost her investment to a Crypto scam.

Following the breakup, she attended her cousin’s wedding ceremony in her hometown, while she was there, her mother asked her about her partner. Interestingly, she meets Chief Obiora (played by Uzor Arukwe), a wealthy businessman who showers her with love, attention, gift and vows to ‘get married to her’.  Initially, Chioma was reluctant to invest her emotions in the relationship due to fear of being hurt, however, she was able to find solace in the relationship after intense drama between the couple.

Reception From Viewers

Netizens have taken to social media to disclose that they are impressed by the storytelling and have appreciated the professionalism and embodiment of the characters by Chioma and Chief Obiora. Some commentators mentioned that Obiora, who is a kind, intentional and sincere partner, is the type of man any woman should pray for. However, Obiora’s actions have received predominantly negative feedback from the male demography on the microblogging site X.

Specifically, some commentators noted that love cannot be bought, hence, Chief Obiora shouldn’t have acquired so many gifts for Chioma because it is perceived as being ‘manipulative’. Another coterie of people mentioned that they do not like the portrayal of Igbo men ‘buying love’. The movie has left room for conversation from social media users.
