Ramsey Nouah’s “Living in Bondage: Breaking Free” has displaced “Terminator: Dark Fate” on its first weekend. The sequel to 1992 blockbuster “Living In Bondage” grossed ₦25.8 million in its first week.

The Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria revealed this accomplishment in the film’s first weekend across 47 locations. Surprisingly, the sequel leads cinemas across West Africa to emerge the first Nollywood film to break the record.

To add to that, “Living in Bondage: Breaking Free” surpasses records of five Hollywood films currently in cinema. “Terminator: Dark Fate” comes next to the Nollywood sequel at N12.6 million in its second week.

"Living in Bondage"

“Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” and “Gemini Man” grossed ₦8.2 million and ₦2.4 million respectively. Also, “Joker” grossed ₦2.1 million.

Directed by Ramsey Nouah, the CEAN predicts that the film will gross N250 million in the next 13 weeks. This would break the record of Kemi Adetiba’s “King Of Boys”.

Whether by the storyline, nostalgia, or sheer curiousity of the watchers, Ramsey Nouah’s directorial debut has achieved a great feat. The reviews of this movie have been pretty favourable.
