Lil Wayne Pleads Guilty to Firearms Charges

American rapper, Dwayne Michael Carter, better known as Lil Wayne, has pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a firearm.

He pleaded guilty on Friday after a loaded, gold-plated 45 caliber handgun was found in his private plane on arriving in Miami from California in December 2019.

Police also found what was believed to be cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy, heroin, painkillers and more than $25,000 in cash.

The rapper who was previously found guilty of a felony crime, prohibiting him from having the weapon or ammunition faces up to 10 years in prison.

According to TMZ, Wayne, 38, reached a plea deal with prosecutors in exchange for leniency; but ultimately his sentence is up to U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams. Wayne is scheduled to be sentenced on January 28.

In February this year, Wayne made headlines after he said he is 53 percent Nigerian and would love to visit the country soon.

He disclosed this in a chat with N.O.R.E and DJ EFN on one of the episodes of ‘Drink Champ,’ a programme by  Revolt TV .

During the show, N.O.R.E had asked the rapper why he mentioned Nigeria in one of his songs. In his response, he hinted he is a Nigerian. He noted an ancestry test he had revealed he is linked to the country.

He added that he needs to see his mother and discuss his origin.

“Shout out to Nigeria. I did my 23 and me ancestry dot com and my shit came back like 53% Nigerian. Yea! Me and my mum need to have a talk (Laughter),” he said.

”I gat to go to Nigeria…I gat to go see that place.”
