Two months after releasing his hit single MONTERO (Call Me by Your Name), Lil Nas X is back with another track called Sun Goes Down.
In Sun Goes Down with a music video in which Lil Nas X goes back to 2017 to comfort his high school self; who was having a hard time dealing with his sexuality and his blackness. Lil Nas X’s father, R. L. Stafford, makes a cameo in the visual, too. Sun Goes Down is produced by Take A Daytrip, Omer Fedi, and Roy Lonzo. Lil Nas X co-directed the video with Psycho Films.
MONTERO took the world by storm upon its release in March of this year. The reaction was largely due to its over-the-top music video; which culminated with Lil Nas X twerking on Satan before overtaking his throne. He also got entangled in a brief legal issue with Nike over the release of his “Satan shoes”; which contained drops of human blood in them.
The visual also featured Lil Nas X pole dancing in a manner that resembled the choreography in FKA twigs’ amazing and iconic cellophane video. FKA twigs later thanked Lil Nas X for discussing those similarities with her.
Tonight, Lil Nas X will act as musical guest on Saturday Night Live.
