NEARLY three months after his death, late highlife music legend, Victor Olaiya has finally been laid to rest.
The 89-year-old trumpeter who passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, while on admission at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), was buried at the Vaults & Garden Cemetery in Ikoyi.
Olaiya’s burial ceremony which had a few friends and family members in attendance, held today (Thursday, May 7).
Born on 31 December 1930 in Calabar, Olaiya fondly referred to as the Evil Genius of Highlife, was a legendary trumpeter.
Born in December 1930 to Alfred and Bathsheba Olaiya, the late singer had come through as the 20th child of a family of 24.
During his time, he was recognised as a renowned musician in Nigeria and even beyond the shores of the country. He will ever be remembered for many historical events, including the state ball when Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom (UK) visited Nigeria in 1956.
