Lady Gaga is to sing the national anthem for the inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on January 20. The singer famously campaigned for Biden last year and gave a speech upon his announcement as President-elect.
The Biden-Harris inaugural committee confirmed to Variety that Gaga is on board to perform The Star-Spangled Banner for the swearing-in ceremony on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol; which Trump-supporting domestic terrorists recently stormed.
Also on deck for the ceremony: Jennifer Lopez will perform; Andrea Hall, a career firefighter, will lead in the Pledge of Allegiance; Amanda Gorman, the first-ever National Youth Poet Laureate, will recite a poem.
Aside from Lady Gaga, the event organizers are yet to publicly reveal the additional artists booked for the Biden-Harris inaugural events. The new President is expected to draw a starry lineup of industry supporters to participate and perform for inaugural festivities.
In addition to the swearing-in ceremony, there will be live streams of a virtual parade and other events on January 20. There’s also a primetime network special that night hosted by Tom Hanks.
This is not the first time Lady Gaga will give a rendition of the national anthem at an event; as she earned praise for her Super Bowl performance in 2016.
