Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan is teaching a filmmaking masterclass which makes its debut soon on YouTube. This is a part of YouTube’s #WithMe series which helps creatives around the world stay in touch with their audiences.

The virtual masterclass will run weekly; debuting this Friday, May 1, 2020, at 5 PM West African Time.

The masterclass is expected to cut across several aspects of filmmaking such as directing, cinematography, lighting, script development, production tips, the business of film among others; using his filmography as case studies.

According to Afolayan, the masterclass also coincides with the release of Alo, an animated series, and Eko Ede Yoruba; which teaches the basics of Yoruba language.

He joins the list of creatives that are using online platforms to connect and share content with their fans; as a result of the restrictions necessitated by the coronavirus outbreak.

With this initiative, the acclaimed filmmaker and promoter of culture says he is giving back to the young and emerging generation of filmmakers; to those who hold the Yoruba culture dear to their hearts.

The award-winning director of Figurine, October 1 and The CEO, among others, is one of the prominent new wave of independent Nigerian filmmakers; telling compelling stories that resonate with their “Pan-African” audiences.

More recently, Afolayan wrapped up the shooting of his latest film, The Citation. The movie spans across three African countries with an international cast. It is currently in post-production.
