Kunle Afolayan Explains Reason For 'Tribalistic' Ordeal

Kunle Afolayan

Nollywood filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan has explained his action that led to him being called a tribalist.

Recall that on Sunday, September 27, 2020, actor Mike Ezuruonye called out Afolayan for posting a DM where he was tagged a fraudster, on social media.

In the DM screenshot shared by Afolayan, Ezuruonye was accused of fraudulently dealing with women.

Afolayan’s post however didn’t sit well with Ezuruonye, who rushed to his Instagram page to call out the revered filmmaker, and tagged him a tribalist.

He wrote: “U now acting like u don’t know impersonators are using Actors/Musicians/politicians /celebs fake profiles and videos to Defraud people world over???? Or haven’t u seen the ones caught in my respect and even jailed for impersonating me by @officialefcc ????

“Why am I surprised, you’ve always HATED IGBOS. Are we going to forget in the Press ur statement years ago saying “IGBOS are the ones spoiling the movie industry..U don’t like casting them.” Well this IGBO ain’t like u cos he was born in Lagos and speaks flawless Yoruba. And loves the Yoruba people U Tribalistic human!!!!!”

Explaining why he shared the post in the first place, Afolayan said his action wasn’t to spite Ezuruonye, as the latter thought.

According to him, the shared DM where Ezuruonye was tagged a fraudster was to pass a message across the purveyors of fake news and unproven allegations.

“I intended to jocularly send a message to purveyors of fake news and unproven allegations that they should free him and by extension his other colleagues of such mindless allegations,” Afolayan wrote in a post that has now been deleted on his Instagram page.
