Kristen Stewart is the star of the upcoming biopic, Spencer.

Stewart gets to play the globally beloved royal and late Princess of Wales, Princess Diana. The upcoming biopic is directed by internationally acclaimed director, Pablo Larraín.

Spencer was Princess Diana’s maiden name before she got married to Prince Charles.

The film is set over a three day period in 1991 at the Queen’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk, England. Spencer happens over the Christmas holidays and mainly tells the story of what may have transpired in the life of Diana as she struggles with a marriage gone cold, rumors of affairs, unwanted notoriety, and an impending divorce from her husband and the response to the late royal choosing to leave the House of Windsor.

English actor, Jack Farthing stars alongside Stewart as Prince Charles, the heir apparent to the throne. Other cast members include Timothy Spall, Sally Hawkins, Sean Harris, Olga Hellsing and Thomas Douglas.

Back in 2020, Kristen Stewart discussed the film with Jimmy Kimmel. Stewart said, “It’s this really poetic, internal imagining of what that might have felt like, rather than giving new information”. She also went on to add, “It’s hard not to feel protective over her. She was so young … everyone’s perspective is different, and there’s no way to get everything right … what is fact in relation to personal experience.”

On playing Princess Diana, Stewart admitted she was both nervous and excited about the opportunity. “The accent is intimidating as all hell because people know that voice, and it’s so, so distinct and particular,” she said. “It’s one of the saddest stories to exist ever, and I don’t want to just play Diana — I want to know her implicitly. I haven’t been this excited about playing a part, by the way, in so long” She added.

The movie makes it’s world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and will drop in theaters on November 5, 2021.
