Reality superstar, Kim Kardashian, was accused recently of buying an illegally smuggled Roman statue. The statue was identified as “Fragment of Myron Samian Athena – limestone – 1st -2nd century A.D” by the Roman authorities. It was reportedly seized at the Port of Los Angeles in June 2016.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer had reported a shipment of “possibly protected cultural property from Italy”. According to them, the statue was part of a 40 piece shipment of antiques, furniture and decorations valued at $745,882.
A Kardashian representative has now told NBC News that the accusation was false. They said it was the first that she has learned of the existence of the statue. “We believe it may have been purchased using her name without authorization and because it was never received, she was unaware of the transaction.”
“We encourage an investigation and hope that it gets returned to the rightful owners,” the representative said. The accusation follows the sale invoice of the statue being tied to Kardashian’s designer. The Belgian interior designer Axel Vervoordt had helped design Kim’s home in Hidden Hills.
Kim Kardashian ‘not involved’
This news also comes following the form that listed the and importer as “Kim Kardashian dba Noel Roberts Trust.” However, recent documents have still not alleged any wrongdoing by Kardashian.
“Based on the information and scientific aspects the archaeologist provided, the archaeologist opined that the defendant statue was looted, smuggled and illegally exported from Italy,” the US filing statement said. However, the model and reality star is detaching herself from the whole situation.
