Kemi Lala Akindoju announces production debut

Kemi Lala Akindoju is set to take the role of co-executive producer in a new feature film. Although the Nollywood actress had worked in other production capacities in the past, this will be a first. Akindoju had previously been a casting director and producer but never an executive producer.

The star actress made the announcement via her Twitter account on Monday. In her tweet, she writes: “Co-executive produced my first feature. Not an easy feat, but I won’t have it any other way. Y’all will soon see “The Make It Happen Productions” on your screens.”

The news was met with congratulatory messages from fans and colleagues. However, she did not release any further details on the project. Before now, Akindoju had worked as casting director and producer on various projects.

Popular for her acting roles in Okafor’s Law and Banana Island Ghost, Akindoju is a seasoned stage actress. The University of Lagos graduate has features in numerous stage and film productions around the world. Akindoju made her directorial debut with stage play, Lavender back in 2019.

Kemi wears many hats

She was part of the production and directorial team of the 2019 movie, The Ghost and the House of Truth. She also acted in the movie. More recently she worked as casting director in Eyimofe, a movie directed by Arie and Chuko Esiri.

In 2013, Akindoju was casting director for Ndani TV’s web series, Gidi Up. Since then, she has cast directed other movies and TV series like, 2020’s This Is My Desire and Smart Money Woman. Meanwhile, in 2021 she played the same role for The Razz Guy.  

The Make it Happen Productions is a production company owned and run by the actress. The 34-year-old also welcomed her first child in February this year. She is married to popular celebrity chef, Gbubemi Fregene, popularly known as Chef Fregz.
