2019 is drawing to a close, but the surprises are far from over. American rapper Kanye West and his Sunday Service Choir released a surprise Christmas album today titled ‘Jesus Is Born’.
The 19-track album follows Kanye West’s ‘Jesus Is King’. Kanye executive produced ‘Jesus Is Born’.
That LP was finally released in October following a few delays. Listen to Jesus Is Born below:
In addition to the faith-based album and the Christmas album, Kanye West has been hosting his gospel series Sunday Service in churches and venues around the country for months.
In April he and the Sunday Service Choir performed at Coachella 2019 in Indio, California.
Kanye has also ventured into the world of opera as of late. He debuted his first opera Nebuchadnezzar in November. His second opera Mary premiered the following month.
Kanye and his choir most recently hit up the Lincoln Center and performed “Mary.” The stage was reportedly decked out in plants, over 100 choir members and props to tell the story of Jesus’ birth from the eyes of his mother. There was also a rendition of “The Little Drummer Boy.”
Jesus Is Born features multiple songs West and the Sunday Service Choir have performed live, including “Ultralight Beam,” “Follow Me – Faith,” which interpolates melodies from West’s The Life of Pablo track “Fade.”
